Decolonial Feminist Thought and Praxis
“Decolonial Feminist Thought and Praxis” was chosen as the inaugural theme of the Sawaba Journal because decolonisation must be understood as both an intellectual and lived practice.
Inspired by the idea of articulation as central to decolonisation, this issue creates space to name, reclaim, and amplify knowledge and experiences that colonial systems have marginalised, distorted, or erased. But articulation alone is not enough. The issue moves beyond critique towards the work of dismantling, reconstructing, and imagining otherwise.
It invites feminist and anti-colonial thought rooted in diverse African epistemologies, embodied practices, histories of resistance, and lived realities, while critically engaging inherited Western frameworks. In doing so, the inaugural issue positions decolonisation as an ongoing, creative, and world-making practice that opens possibilities for more liberatory futures.
