Brief 1: Social Reproduction, Political Economy and Militarisation of Sexual Violence in Africa

The brief develops a social reproduction analysis of how neocolonial economic relationships displace the costs of capitalism onto women’s bodies and labour. We trace the specific political economy of debt, structural adjustment, and austerity that manufactures the material conditions for gendered violence and examine how the militarisation of African states extends into the global securitisation of sexual violence itself as its own extractive economy.
